Invest in a humidifier. The number one cause of chapped lips is dry air -- and during winter, both cold weather outdoors and artificial heat indoors are guaranteed to deplete skin of much needed moisture. Address the problem at the root by investing in a humidifier to help alleviate dehydration. (Middle Colors humidifier, $119, gizmine.com)

Wintery conditions and hydrated, soft lips just don’t go hand in hand. That is a fact. The layers of skin that make up the lips are much thinner than on the face and don’t contain the oil and sweat glands that help defend the rest of our body against harsh elements. No wonder it feels like a never-ending battle trying to keep lips supple and smooth the second the temperature and humidity level drops below “perfect.”

In our own quest to conquer dry, cracked lips this season, we tested a whole slew of products on the market and narrowed it down to the ten essentials. So read on, pucker up, and get ready to kiss wintery lips goodbye.
