At our office, we’re always hearing of ridiculous beauty tricks that sound too good (or crazy) to be true, but there’s no better feeling than making a weird beauty discovery that really works. After spending some time with the most common beauty problems everyone encounters, we’ve put together all of our favorite weird beauty tricks that do what they say they’ll do. Our hope is that some of your most frustrating beauty problems will be solved with these tricks!
1. To avoid stray mascara marks, hold a plastic spoon (curve out) over your eyelid when applying your mascara so the excess can go on the spoon, not your lids.
2. To reduce puffy eyes, cut raw, peeled potatoes in half and place over your eyes for 10 minutes. The potato will cool your eyes and any swelling will decrease.
3. Next time you need a face mask but don’t have time to run to the store, use Pepto Bismol. In the same way it breaks down oil and acids in your digestive system, it breaks down any on your face. Use two tablespoons and leave on for 15-20 minutes.
4. If you’re starting to notice cellulite creeping up anywhere, use coffee grounds as a body scrub. The caffeine will stimulate skin cells and using it as a scrub will get rid of any dead skin trying to cling to life.
5. In need of a deep conditioning treatment? Get the mayonnaise out of your fridge and into your hair for about 20 minutes. For added benefits, use your blow dryer so the heat will activate the mayonnaise even more.
6. If your nail polish seems to dry with bubbles in it, it may be because the polish is being stored at too warm of a temperature. Keep your polish in the fridge and the cool temperature will make sure that it always dries smoothly.
7. After a workout, some people have the issue of a red face long after the last exercise. To combat this, take an antihistamine so the redness will be majorly reduced.
8. Whether you’re always getting blisters or you’ve got a new pair of shoes to break in, rubbing a little bit of Vaseline on areas that tend to get blisters will reduce any friction so your feet won’t be cut up by the end of the night.
9. Glitter nail polish is a nightmare to remove, but if you soak a cotton ball in nail polish remover, place on your nail, wrap your finger tip in tin foil and let it sit for five minutes, the glitter will slide right off.
10. In a rush after an at-home manicure? Submerge your fingers in cold water for three minutes and your nails will come out dry.

Blistering from new (or worn) shoes–For some reason panty hose have almost gone out of style. There is no stopping perspiration, particularly wearing shoes. It is the stockings that prevents (most) shoe blistering and allows comfort. It also gives legs a certain amount of “luster”. Personally, it could be July, I will not attempt to wear shoes without some form of stockings. Of all things I would not apply vaseline.
I agree…pantyhose need to come back in style…they finish your look and make you look sleek and sophisticated
You are so right, NOBODY looks dressed without stockings, except for children.
I agree as well. I was in the military for 8 years and hose were mandatory. My company commander taught us that classy women complete their look with hose, going without is a little tacky. I hate pantyhose so I wear thigh high stockings instead. They drive most men wild.
I rub my solid stick deo on my feet. It works great for stinky sweaty feet. It must work for blisters, too. I never get them. Oh and for dry rough hands, feet and cuticles I use Bee’s Wax every night before bed. The kind you find in hair treatments for people of color. It makes exfoiliating your feet so much easier.
That’s one I’ve never heard of will give it a go thanks. Lyn South Australia
Right on, Mary Ann. Pantyhose/nylons are best in protecting your feet, not to mention the polished finish it gives to a lady’s look.
Instead of using vaseline which could be messy, try rubbing a piece of hard candle to the part of the shoe that is causing the friction to your foot/feet. It works wonders.
How girls/women deal with these situations are up to them, but I still prefer pantyhose.
if you put garlic on your hair…people are sure to run away.
hahahaa if you put garlic anywhere plp will run away
God Bless You All,
My Mom used to do this ‘back in the day’ and it is a great, organic facial skin tightener that only costs you the price of one egg: simply remove the egg white from one egg, stir it with a fork to even out the consistency, then smooth onto your freshly washed (no harsh soap) face, avoiding the area directly around the eyes. Allow to dry and leave on for 20 minutes to a half hour, and try to keep talking to a minimum so as not to “crack” the tightening mask. Remove by splashing on warm water. Apply a light moisturizer and enjoy a beautiful, fresh, younger-looking face!
you can also use the egg yolk to clear up acne, take the egg yolk and smear all over your face, let it completely dry for about 15 minutes, avoiding smiling, talking, frowning as it will crack the mask. Once it has dried, remove it with warm water, you can use a washcloth if needed. After you remove it with the warm water, you may use a small amount of soap and gently wash (you don’t have to use soap, and it works best if you don’t) after its removed splash your face once or twice with very cold water. Do this once every morning or night, for 2 weeks straight. Once the 2 weeks is up you should have a beautiful clear face free of acne, and to keep the acne away do once every 2 weeks, if you notice any blemishes starting to show before the 2 weeks go to once every week. this remedy was posted in our local journal about 20 years ago. it works wonders.
use the yolk from your separated egg for your hair. mix with your conditioner, or just water. leave it in while showering so it “steams” a bit. glossy hair!
Do you wash it after this or just rinse out?
Nice….nd useful beauty tips….
some of the stuff is just eww and just so u no, putting egg in your hair is a bad idea when it rains the smell of egg submurges and everyone will look at u funny!
What does “submurges” mean? How does a smell submurge?
My thoughts exactly. Comment made no sense.
I believe she meant “emerges”
Absolutely disagree! I do a mayo+olive oil+egg yolk deep conditioning hair mask once a month. I apply on a Friday night I have free, wrap my head in plastic wrap and then a towel, let it sit for 30 minutes, rinse very well with ice cold water and air dry. Of course my head smells like an egg salad sandwich when I’m sleeping, but after washing thoroughly with a moisturizing shampoo followed by a deep conditioner (Redken’s All-Soft line), there is NO egg-y smell. You may think this is gross but I’d rather deal with 12 or so hours of my hair smelling like eggs than spending $100+ at the salon for a chemical based deep conditioning treatment that leaves me smelling like I’ve had an 80′s perm.
elmas: the beauty trick with egg was for firmer skin. You may have quickly read through the tips and got it confused with the one which called for mayonnaise on the hair in which case I would have agree. However, the egg white as a facial mask is tried and true for me!~ (tip-one egg white only no yolk, stirred with fork for even consistancy, apply to face avoiding sensitive eye area, wait 20 minutes, rinse and enjoy tighter, firmer skin.
That’s never happened to me and I always put egg in my hair it keeps it shiny and healthy. You must have not washed it out properly.
This will sound weird, but it works like magic: There are these vitamins (A,D,E) , it is a sort of oil that consist of those 3 vitamins. It is used for horses and livestock.Your hair will not only grow faster and get a beautiful shine, but hair fall will reduce.
From this you will need 2 tbsp.
To it add 1 egg yolk, 1 tablespoon of yogurt, 1 tablespoon of desalinated oil or almond oil of your choice, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, a few drops of gas (which does not refer to blond hair, then drop the gas) and 1 tablespoon brandy or other liquor.
Mix all items together. Apply them first in the roots of dry hair. The remainder spread on the rest of the hair, all the way to the ends. Put a plastic cap, then warm towel and put it on the plastic cap and stay as long as possible – from 1 to 3 hours. When the towel cools soak in hot water again.
Then rinse off, very good.
You can also do the horse vitamin only, but it is better to use the whole recipe. 1-2 times a week will give great results. If you do it regularly, the result will be constant.
Non of the ingredients are dangerous, on the contrary. This mask takes time and effort but the result is amazing!!!!
Are you talking about real gasoline,
Don’t be so gullible.
I believe that by gas, Vesselina is referring to paraffin oil, which mixed with olive oil is used by European women to treat hair loss.
Gayle – don’t be rude. Lots of people have the same question.
So are you saying that it reduces hair loss?
…..GAS?????
I use dryer sheets for static….I keep them in my purse in ziplocks for my hair when I get static and it makes it smell fresh too. I run them over my car seats and along my clothes when I am out.
Blow your new shoes with a hairdryer for a few miniutes to break them in before wearing, and for hair use olive oil and wrap in cling film and place a towel over the top and leave for a a couple hours, hair will come out shiny and soft, for a cleansing face scrub try using bicarbonate soada, and a good cure for scars is skin peroxcide 6%. Enjoy hope these work aswel for you as they do me!
I have a few tips I use religiously.
1. EVEN YOUR EYE SKIN TONE: soak Clear Eyes or Visine on a que-tip and run the que-tip gently along the edges of your eye to remove red or pink from the skin, this also words on zits but use a new que-tip obviously. I have pale skin and very pink undertones so this trick evens out the eyes before you apply make-up or even just going au-natural
2. GET RID OF WHITE DEODORANT MARKS: use a wool sock to remove white powered deodorant/antiperspirant marks from your dark clothes! I keep a clean wool sock just for this in my bag/car/bathroom it works wonders.
3. INSTANT STAIN REMOVAL: If you get a dark spill on your jeans or a white shirt but dont have champagne or soda water go to the bathroom and pool saliva in your mouth, put it directly over the mark and use your fingers on the top and beneath the stain and rub the saliva into the garment, DO NOT USE WATER. The enzymes break down the stain FAST even on whites! I can’t tell you how many times this has helped my new cute shirt at the club…I’ve since switched from vodka cran.
4. SHAVE THE WRINKLES AWAY: About once a week, after you’ve done your regular hair removal shave, apply a thick mask of shaving cream to your whole face avoiding the inner eye areas and mouth, shave in a downward motion starting at your hair-line. I use a single blade (i like those razors with a blade at the top) and I carefully shave horizontally on my cheeks/under-eyes. It’s not a race, you don’t need to push hard, do this at night, once a week (AVOID the sun!!!) moisturize and go to sleep, in 6 weeks you won’t believe the difference and you’ll be a lifer. I learned this from reading old articles about Liz Taylor.
5. CURE THE FRIZZ: I have the ultimate red-afro and have tried everything! I read about this trick in an old readers digest, use a dime size of baby oil and apply it to your damp (not soaked) hair, style and dry as normal. Your hair will have much more controlled frizz in ONE step! Plus light will really catch your highlights, people always ask about my golden strawberry hair now instead of suggesting frizz treatments.
I love the tips
OMG!!!! it would shave the wrinkles away but give you a beard wont it ?
Yea I wouldn’t try the shaving tip. Ruining your face actually by growing more hair!!!!!!!!!
Shaving does not increase hair growth but I have heard plucking can because it can damage the root. What shaving does is exfoliates off the dead cells. I think it may help to reduce signs of wrinkles. I’ll try it.
NO NO NO – do not shave your face, this will thicken your facial hair and you will have to continue to shave for ever – what a stupid suggestion!
I’ve been shaving my face for decades and when I’m in a depression stage and don’t do it for a couple of weeks, the hair is not thicker or darker than when I originally started doing it in my twenties. This myth is not true. For me anyway. In my opinion, shaving is much safer than using chemical hair remover lotions on your skin and better for your skin than hot wax. Why would you subject yourself to cancer-causing chemicals and violent tugging when you can remove your peach fuzz with a gentle glide of a razor in a hot shower? And for me 5-bladed razors work best. I use a quality men’s one instead of the cheap disposable ones.
stupid that they didn’t approve my previous comment. F to the You stupid blog I’ll never come back to.
I think your tips are great- I’m pretty sure the posters concerned about shaving their face are women and did not realize that you are a guy- in which case shaving your face makes sense.
you tell em girlfren
If you have BlackHeads in your nose, but don’t have a remover and don’t have time to run to a store. Use glue! Apply on nose let it dry for 10mins. then remove. Easy! When you remove the dried glue check for holes if you see holes it means that you should clean your face more often (morning and night) and if you see black dotes it means that Blackheads were remove from face.
This weird beauty tip will not remove it all, but its good to check if you need to clean your face (blackhead section) more often. You can do this once a week.
I’ve tried this, it really didn’t work. I use a Clarisonic daily and have small stubborn blackheads, they didn’t budge with this.
What a horrific idea…popping a pill because you’re embarrased to have blood? Omg, I am so mortified! My cheeks are pink! Omg, omg, now everyone will know that i am a living human being!
I agree!! I never take OTC medication (or prescriptions) unless I absolutely have to!! Taking one for a little redness seems very drastic (not to mention the health problems they can cause…yikes). My face gets a little red after I workout as well, but I always thought it looked good! A rosy face=my blood has been pumping, and I’m healthy! No worries there!
Wise: Most antihistamines raise blood pressure. Not a good idea during a workout.
Antihistamine after extended exercise: If a person is red-faced long after this type of exercise they should have their blood pressure checked.
Shaving wrinkles away, wouldn’t that girl eventually develop a certain amount of wisker residual? No wonder they would do this type of procedure forever.
Wasn’t that a guy that suggested shaving away wrinkles. It must have been a man tip.
Mary Ann, my face stays very red after working out. My blood pressure is so low that a nurse asked if I get dizzy. For some people it just happens no matter what you do.
Shaving the face, or any other part does not lead to more hair growth. However, waxing, tweeting, and chemical hair removers do. Shaving the face is a very popular and in most cases manditory for models. Use a brow razor with gards and take your time.
Lori, Facial shaving for a woman should not even be an issue; but shaving does create enhanced hair growth and the woman winds up having to do it all the time. All women are different, it is a matter of
choice.
Where did this Old Wive’s Tale even start? Wake up Ladies! Removing the hair follicle from the pore (waxing, tweezing, chemical hair removers) is what makes the hair grow back stiffer or thicker – whatever term you want to use. Hair growing in thicker and darker is what happens to MEN as their male hormones change throughout their lives.
I wear all day lipsticks but they are very hard to remove but I stumbled across a product that takes it off in seconds . The product is Skin so Soft Bath Oil (Avon )
what brand of lipstick do you use? i cannot find one that i like that actually stays on.
The long last lipsticks that are liquid and have a balm that goes with them will stay on all day. However, oils take off the color, hence the special balm. Cover girl actually makes the best one I’ve ever used. Also, I swear by “Take the Day Off” from Clinique, it removes eye make up and long last lipstick, in one quick sweep with a cotton ball.
I have found that baby wipes work GREAT for taking that kind of lipstick off. They are actually wonderful for taking off all makeup, even waterproof eye makeup.
I have used Pond’s cold cream for years to remove makeup with tissues. I then use whatever cleanser I’m into at the moment to wash. Pond’s will get off ANY makeup!
This is so true!! Pond’s cold cream is MAGIC. My grandmother recommended it to me and it gets even the most stubborn of makeup off immediately. Simply amazing!
Reblogged this on THE NEERASPHERE and commented:
Nice tips!
Taking an antihistamine when not necessary is not good for your health and extremely poor advice! Could be an underlying health issue.
I heard a report on NPR that said antihistamine use can cause dementia in old age, even in small amounts. yikes!
Antihistimines for what it’s worth is usually taken for allergic reactions. I don’t know who said this medication would create dementia, but no types of serious medication should be taken without a prescription.
Dipenhydramine (spelling?) works on that part of the brain that comes into play when a person has Alzheimer’s – that’s about the extent of the specifics that I can provide. My doctor, who is an Internal Med guy, with a specialty in Geriatrics (I’ve had him for 25 years), pulled me off of dipenhydramine since I am over 50, and there is a history of Alzheimer’s in my family. (I was taking sleep aids – you know, the stuff label ‘PM’… many pharm companies use dipenhydramine’s side effect of sleepiness to make their PM product.) He was adamant. Immediately stop using them.
What’s unfortunate here is that medical advice is being given out in a totally cavalier manner. (Just take these pills to get rid of your red face… seriously?)
I don’t even like to use antihistamines when I am having allergy problems-I can’t see using it for something as superficial as a red face. When my face is red it’s most often because I need to hydrate, and antihistamines dry you up, so it’s counter-productive.
This isn’t so much a beauty thing but since someone mentioned the product line earlier I thought I’d chime in. In summertime, if you want to avoid getting eaten alive by mosquitoes (like I routinely do) using Avon Skin So Soft bath oil on your skin will repell them. It works better than any bug spray I’ve ever had the displeasure of using (literally not one bite) and you don’t end up smelling like a gallon of DEET. Stating the obvious, it also makes your “skin so soft”.
It works great for repelling ticks as well.
Body/facial scrub That Rocks: Plain Greek Yogurt ( I like how thick it is ), Honey (Natural antibacterial), and Granulated white sugar which works as a gentle alpha hydroxy! Just mix and play to get the consistency you like. It super cheap and softens, exfoliates and brightens your skin! I swear by it
I’ve heard of people using avocados instead of yogurt. If you want to detoxify the skin add some green tea leaves from a tea bag (also is a gentler exfoliant if you don’t like the larger granules of sugar)
I really don’t think taking an antihistamine for that purpose is a good idea. There are side-effects that are associated with taking them, and it’s never a good idea to take medication unnecessarily.
Side effects can include drowsiness, dry mouth and urinary retention, not to mention the added possibility of interacting with other medicines.
if your nails are messy after doing them just do the dishes for 15 mins and they will be neat and even.
If I did the dishes for 15 minutes after a manicure, most of the polish would slide off. My fingernails are very oily I’ve been told, and I can’t find a nail polish that will stay put for more than a few hours. I tried the new gels and it’s too inconvenient to remove it. I’ve tried so many tips from people and salons, I can’t count. If I polish my nails on a Friday night, literally when I get up on Saturday morning the polish is gone from the tips of my nails.
I will be honest I didn’t read all the comments so I hope this is not a repeat. I always use baby oil to take off my eye makeup and I have sworn by it my whole life. It is super gentle on my very sensitive skin and eyes. It removes the makeup very well with minimal soft rubbing on the eyes (while they are closed obviously), and to remove I always use a soft tissue. It has no harsh chemicals and it provides a little moisture as well. Now, I have had friends tell me it only works for me because I have naturally non-oily and clear skin. However, I learned this trick from my mother who has had notoriously oily skin her entire life and has never had an issue with using baby oil. I just thought I would share.
I also used baby oil to take eye make up off but also for the pass 6 years have been using vitamin E oil works great and also softens skin around eyes! =)
Re using baby oil to remove eye make-up. I have always worn waterproof eye make-up and have used baby oil for years even though I have oily skin. Other make-up removers always made my eyes burn even if it was for sensitive eyes. I am 54 and have very few wrinkles around my eyes for my age. I have always wondered if the use of the oil around my eyes over the years could be a factor in this. The only thing I do disagree with is using any tissue or paper products on the face (even ones with lotion). I have always read and been told that the fibers in paper products, especially around the eyes can be too rough and add to wrinkles. Thanks for all the good tips!
Just in case the scent or perfume in baby oil irritates someones eyes or skin, Mineral oil can be used instead. It is the main ingredient in baby oil wtihout the scent additive.
http://www.dcareaeyecare.com/make_up_removal_article.html
Commercial make up removers, baby oil or Vaseline all remove makeup from the skin around the eye but they will often leave behind a “sludge” that consists of a combination of makeup remover and makeup on the eyelid rim. The eyelid rim is the part of the eyelid adjacent to the cornea, conjunctiva and tear film. Every time someone blinks, the upper lid rim touches the lower lid rim and spreads whatever fluid is on the lower lid across the cornea just like a car windshield wiper will spread across a windshield any debris that is at the bottom of the windshield. We hope that the only fluid on the lower lid margin is the clear fluid produced by healthy meibomian glands. But, if there is makeup or make up removal residue on this lower rim, then the “windshield wiper effect” is spreading particles and oily matter across the tear film. Worse yet, the makeup and makeup removal products can block the meibomian gland “good fluid”. This can contribute to dry, itchy and uncomfortable eyes.
Another great trick I’ve found is removing all of your makeup (eyes included) with cocoa butter. As a theater girl, I wear a LOT of makeup, and during a show, it builds up a lot, no matter what other types of makeup remover you my use. Cocoa butter causes absolutely no harm and is soft and doesn’t’ t urn your eyes at all! I use Palmer’ s Cocoa Butter Formula.
I have super dry skin around my eyes and upper cheeks. When I use even sensitive makeup remover, my eyes turn bright pink and I get dry patches on my upper cheeks that take a few days to get rid of. Instead of makeup remover, I use Vaseline to remove my eye makeup that won’t come off with soap and water. Just apply a little to my eye with my finger, rub it in, then wipe off with a tissue or baby wipe. My mascara is waterproof and extremely difficult to remove, but the Vaseline takes it right off! As a bonus, it even made my eyelashes longer.
i hope nobody said this before but wont the mayonaise make your hair smell bad.
I’ve read these salad ingredients for hair-care, but has anyone heard of Pantene, L’Oreal and other fine products. They actually work. There is also Corialis for hair straightening. Life does not have to be difficult.
It’s not meant to be “difficult”, it’s meant to be simple, quick and easy. Something you can do with things you have on hand that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on. Just like talc or baby powder can be used instead of dry shampoo. One just needs to make sure to thoroughly de-dust the white from the root area.
Sometimes finding household remedies when the real thing isn’t available can be helpful, but eggs, mayo, and the like can create residual odor. Baby powder/talc was used by some girls when I was in high school and it can cause dandruff.
Some of us can’t afford “fine products.”
Costco baby wipes are great makeup removers, they have aloe vera and vitamin E. They will even take off watrproof mascara, just wipe gently and it comes right off. A box of 900 wipes is less than $20….After I clean my face, I splash warm water on it for a minute or so, then spread a dab of face cream on my fingers, wipe it over the water to seal it in.
As a licensed Esthetician, I can attest to the fact that shaving does not in fact cause hair to grow fuller , however it seems more blunt on the ends and seems to be thicker. The hair follicle has three stages of growth, not to bore you but its either in a sleep stage , growing , or falling out. No amount of shaving wlll affect what’s going on in the dermal tissues. The exfoliation is true of shaving and can help to take off the dead cells but there are better ways. I never advise my clients to use body scrubs, as in any polishing the finer the better. Dermalogica has a fantastic product ,Thermofoliant. You can get the best price on Ebay . I really love Ebay for the topicals that are more effective as well as important if you are concerned with antiaging ( anyone over 25 ) Baby Face has topicals that have the right peptides inside but dont have the fancy label . I have been using their Matrxyl 3000 at 40% for a year or so and I’m fifty and people think I look 15 to 20 years younger !!! I really believe in exfoliation first for product penetration and if you can handle a little discomfort a micro-needle roller is Extremely effective. If you like more tips just ask !!! l
sure, more tips! large pores?
Chellee, For some women large pores come naturally, but if you wash with warm, sudsy water
then ice cold water it might close pores for a time. It can’t hurt.
Hey there, Susan! It’s so nice to have a true professional at our disposal!
My deal: I get clogged pores halfway between my jawline and the edge of my lips, on both right and left sides. Does that make sense? Like, picture a smiley face. Half an inch under each edge of the smiley, my skin hates me. They’re not pimples, nor blackheads, just deep, seemingly permanent whiteheads, and nothing on the planet helps them. I even had a dermatologist try to remove some of them, but they came right back, even though I use pricey skin care products, including Retin-A. Any advice? They drive me absolutely freakin’ crazy, and makeup doesn’t cover them! Thanks in advance!
Michelle, I had those very same pesky weird pores on my smiley face too! I had to reply, because I found out that the issue had nothing at all to do with my skin routine.
It had everything to do with my hormones. Apparently, they were raging and they needed to be toned down a bit. They went away after my much too early histerectomy, which isn’t really the best of news. However, had I known the cause before, I could have regulated my hormones with medication instead of surgery. I would suggest talking to your OB about the issue. My hormonal issues were night sweats, flashes of heat/cold, changes in mood like depression and worsening inconsistancies with my menustration.
I know that I am going out on a limb with this, but it is a warning sign that I ignored and I hope that you don’t. It’s hard to have these types of conversations, but I hope that you do call your OB. I’m also glad I read your comment, largely because we share the same name. =) Again, I may be way off base, and I hope I am, but it’s only a simple blood test, and it’s worth knowing.
Also, I don’t know how to make this private, but if there is a moderator on this site who is able to send this to Michelle privately, It would be appreciated. Thank you for your discression.
Michelle –
I agree with the other Michelle. What you are describing is a common problem for women suffering from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom (PCOS). I have the same problem, only not as severe as yours sounds. I have more of a problem with excess facial hair. I’ve had to discontinue using birth control pills because of an unrelated health issue, but while I was taking them I experienced a huge improvement in both the pimples like yours and the extra facial hair. And I can absolutely tell any of you ladies reading this that you should think long and hard before shaving your face. I started shaving under my chin after I got tired of the constant plucking, and I regret it. My skin is rough, it almost always looks “shadowed” even immediately after shaving, and the hair is so much coarser than before.
What a bummer that I can’t reply directly to the nice ladies who responded to my post! To the other Michelle and to kim-pee, THANK YOU! You’re both bang-on; I do have hormonal issues, including PCOS. i have been on the pill for many years, as it is supposed to help with the PCOS as well as my endometriosis. Besides the pill, the other med often prescribed for some of the nasty side-effects of PCOS is spironolactone, but it makes me throw up like crazy, so that’s not an option. Anyway, thanks for responding, guys! The truth is that I didn’t realize this was PCOS-related, but that makes perfect sense! I will absolutely mention this issue with my doctor; perhaps she’ll know of a better bc pill for me to take. THANKS AGAIN! : )
The thing with shaving the face … The skin is very smart when it comes to protecting itself, the skin builds a protective barrier anytime something abrasive rubs against. If you notice someone who shaves, their skin gets thicker and because the skin is thicker the hair gets thicker in order to push through the skin. Think about it if you wear shoes that rub up and down the foot or putting excess pressure on the balls of feet cause callouses or blisters. If you notice too the more you get a pedicure (with the pumice stone or some cut or scrape the dead skin off) the more dead skin builds up … Instead find something to soften that dead skin …
I’ve started using no tears baby wash to remove eye makeup. It’s great for getting off waterproof mascara and eyeliner, that normally I would still have a smidge of residue for fear of getting soap in my eyes. I can really work the wash into the corners and creases since it won’t hurt my eyes (if it hurts at all it’s most likely from the makeup itself). It works for me, hope it works for anyone else trying it. Just wanted to share.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE(and internet skimming)
Olive oil works very well for removing makeup-
just put a little in the palm of your hand, swipe it onto your eyes(be careful not to accidentally smudge makeup into your eye), and rub it off with a cotton ball. The more you get used to it the easier it will be to get stubborn eyeliner off.
Skin benefits-
Olive olive also works nicely for smoothing skin. The protein you get from eating yogurt(Greek yogurt especially) can help your skin to be more firm and resistant to wrinkling- if you use it on your face it can help to calm and moisturize it. Aloe vera and honey can heal. The more natural of things you use on your skin the less your skin has to complain about essentially(fragranced soaps with a ton of ingredients you don’t understand are most often terrible[google does wonders so you can look up ingredients of a product easily])
Note: It has been said that the only reason that Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly may work for some people is because it protects it(rather than soaking in and doing any actual moisturizing) but it also seals the skin which can be anything from bacteria to dirt to natural oils and so on preventing your skin from being its generally awesome self.
You can use olive oil and salt/sugar as well as honey and salt/sugar as scrubs for your skin(they work pretty well, it’s more how you do it than what you use as a scrub though- the more you can open your pores up to get cleansed the more effect it will have, aka warmth and friction from a multitude of angles((circular motions)).
Coconut oil, olive oil, and honey hair masks-
)
You can do this once a week or once a month depending on how well it works with your hair. You can easily do an overnight treatment where you wrap your hair in a plastic layer and/or just have a towel to protect your pillow. It’s very simple: mix and heat up the ingredients to where they are not searing hot but are a texture which you can work into your hair. Eggs are also said to be beneficial as are vinegar rinses and if you wash your hair well enough afterwards(as previously mentioned using a good product is very important-don’t strip all of your oils, every part of your hair other than the root is dead and needs to be protected and nourished because of it. it’s also important because it will aid in getting the scent out. Trader Joe’s shampoos are very awesome and Yes to Carrots is amazing conditioner
Misconception I saw mentioned: Hair does not grow back thicker when you shave it- it just doesn’t taper off(gradually become thinner towards the end) which makes it seem thicker and darker. You really shouldn’t shave unless your completely uncomfortable about having hair on your body(It will stop being itchy once it’s all grown back) it helps you filter your nose(helps keep pollen/dust out) and so on. Everything is there for a reason.
Hope this helped <3
Best at home microdermabrasion/ exfoliator is baking soda. Just add a little to your regular face soap/cleanser. To get rid of those wintery bumps and dry skin on arms and legs mix half Cetaphil gentle cleanser and half baking soda, apply in the shower, rubbing in a circular motion for a minute, then rinse off. Cetaphil is also great to use for shaving your legs. You won’t believe how smooth and soft your skin will feel.
You can find Avon Skin So Soft at http://www.youravon.com/nlipson.
Get a thew table spoons of baking powder mix it with water so it goes like a gewy paste then rub on your face and pores for 30 seconds and then wash off do that for about a week and you should have no spots at all not even jokin xxx
does anyone know how to reduce frizz naturaly? ps i dont have baby oil
re: fizzy hair… cetophil cream or the generic version (comes in tub – under $10 ) – works wonders just use a small amount at first. my mother-in-law is a hair stylist, my husband has a naturally curly “fro” which he has never been able to control. after years of trying expensive products, which always gave out before the day was over leaving him frizzy and hair out of control, I suggested cetophil cream, he tried it and now it is all he uses. his mom says it doesn’t cause negative build up with normal washing, she approves… go light at first, not sure how thick and curly your hair is… not to mention great moisturizer for your body. a jar should last at least a month.
I have always used baby oil for makeup removal! It is the best. Used to use it for frizz and shine, but my hairstylist said that it will fry my hair??? Is there a professional out there who knows why baby oil is bad, if u apply after styling????
Carlie: Baby oil on it’s own will not “fry your hair”, but in the summer, the sun could have an affect on your hair. With the least bit of humidity my hair takes on a whole new adjective, so I tried Corialis, Hair Straightening Iron. It can help.
…cellulite isn’t something you can get rid of by rubbing coffee onto your skin… who did the research for this article? Cellulite is fat, not dead skin cells. While you can get rid of dead, flaking skin by rubbing your skin with abrasives, you cannot get rid of fat- re: cellulite – by rubbing things onto your skin.
Why have a website dedicated to helping people and giving advice if you’re just going throw out whatever you think people will want to hear? :/
For puffy eyes I use Preperation H Cream, make sure it’s not the ointment. I also give myself about 20-30 minutes before leaving the house so I don’t smell like it. It really does take away my puffy eyes.
For puffy eyes I hear Cucumber Slices can work; Freeze before using and apply for a few minutes. A few more slices could also be applied for closing pores. It’s also refreshing.
is there any good tricks that make your nails grow longer and stronger and also hair?
Biotin is great for stronger nails.
Nails that are dry tend to break or peel easily. This can be a symptom of a deficiency in vitamins C, D and biotin. Weak nails signal that the body is low in vitamin B, silicon, zinc, iron, copper, iodine or selenium. When nails are fragile, it is also a sign that there is a lack of B vitamins as well as protein. A white moon shape at the base of the nail can indicate a lack of iron and/or zinc, and frequent hang nails are a sign of a C, folic acid and protein deficiency. Nails with vertical or horizontal ridges can mean a lack of B vitamins or iron. If you find that you are prone to fungus under your nails, this can be due to a lack of friendly bacteria in your system, something quite common if you are taking antibiotics on a regular basis. B vitamins and acidophilus can help clear this up quite easily. People who suffer vitamin A deficiencies find that the body will not absorb or process protein efficiently. When the body is low in vitamin D, calcium cannot be assimilated properly. Without attention to these vitamins, nails become compromised, causing them to become soft and weak.

Mimosa – bear in mind that a lot of the problems described by Danny might be caused simply by dry skin and cuticles. The Sally Hansen product “Hard as Wraps Powerful Acrylic Gel” works for me and even stays on my oily fingernails. While their “Hard as Nails” will make your nails stronger, it tends to make mine really brittle and break. “Hard as Wraps” lets me grow my nails as long as I want but keeps them more ”bendable” so they don’t break when bumped into something. I also use Sally Hansen Salon Nail Care Healing Cuticle Oil. It’s lightweight and soaks in easily. I keep it in my nightstand drawer and use it almost every night. It keeps my cuticles (and therefore my nails) looking healthy and moisturized.
is there any tricks that make scars disappear quicker?
Nails and hair need Protein, Knox Gelatin mixed with anytype of juice over a period of time can show results. As for scars, Vitamin E applied could lighten the scar (this procedure works best when the Vitamin is used with the initial cut, I’ve used it myself).
Use a toothpick to seperate clumped eyelashes from mascara errors.
toothpaste.as a face mask.antibacterial and dries your skin perfectly.and it’s a LOT cheaper than skin products.just wash your face with soap, get a bit of toothpaste (just enough to fit on your toothbrush) and rub it all over your face.hold for like 2 minutes and wash. you will feel your face tighten and it will feel cool and clean ^^
Hi
Does anyone know how to deal with permanent bags under the eyes. I think I was damaged by having restyline injections/fillers. Although it should have been absorbed / metabolized 5 years later… Does lymphatic drainage like in a facial, make a difference? Thanks
Hi
Does anyone know a trick to even the colour of my skin on my face ? It’s very uneven and I don’t dare to use foundation because I always believe that it cloggs up my pores and makes my skin waaaaaaay worse !
Also my hair is very thin I wondered if there is a magic solution out there to make it look more voluminous ?
Than you very much ! The other comments were very useful !
Jennifer,
You might look into niacinamide (such as in Oil of Olay’s Regenerist serum, fragrance-free), and also retin-A. Be sure to wear a good sunscreen. Ultra MD makes some great mineral based sunscreens. Paula Begoun has some very good skin-care advice–she does a lot of research, so you might check her site for advice.
Also, how is your diet? Including lots of nutrient-rich greens, especially cruciferous greens, will help balance out your hormones, which will help with everything. You might try green smoothies or soups with greens blended in and a green powder, such as alfalfa or barley. Eat whole, unprocessed foods, and lots of plant-foods. Biotin also helps with thinning hair.
Product wise, Biolage’s Thermal-Active Setting Spray oddly enough gives my fine, flat hair great texture and volume better than anything else I’ve tried.
Best of luck to you!
Jennifer: Have you tried seeing a Dermatologist? He/She could help with this problem also with thinning hair.
Yes I do.. If when you put on your blush and you want it to look nice and somewhat naturally shiny in your skin then put on your foundation then blush then rub your finger on your clear non-sticky smooth lipgloss like max factor by cover girl it works best for me and I come out with a sweet looking shimmer in my skin.
