Golden Globes 2013: Best and Worst Beauty Looks of the Night

Posted by January 13, 2013 10:00 pm

Julianne Hough has been daring on the red carpet lately, and tonight was no different. Her high-volume updo and intense smokey eyes were a gorgeous compliment to her sparkling gown.

Claire Danes blew everyone's minds with her post-baby body in a red Versace gown, but what we loved was her flowing blowout and deep smokey eye.

Zooey Deschanel's '60s inspired look (complete with a gorgeous red Oscar de la Renta gown) fits her personality perfectly. The volumized ponytail, cat eye and film strip nail art were just right.

Lucy Liu's fun braided hairstyle was one of the more casual styles on the carpet, and while we weren't thrilled about the dress, we're loving the hairstyle.

Jessica Chastain's berry lip was a stunning contrast to her seafoam dress. While we weren't in love with her dramatic hair, her makeup scored her a win in our books.

Oh, Taylor Swift. You should never slick back your hair again. That is all.

Nicole Richie took the matchy-matchy look a bit too far with her long-sleeve blue gown and blue shadow. We generally love her, but this is just not a good look.

Jessica Alba has been so bold with her lip colors lately, and we can't wait for her to keep walking red carpets so we can see more. This orange lip was a fabulous choice for her coral dress.

Naomi Watts' soft, old Hollywood-style faux bob stopped us all in our tracks. Her subtle smokey eyes completed look.

Sarah Hyland decided to go for big hair, big cleavage, and big lashes. Way too much "big."

Jennifer Lawrence's twisted updo (styled by Mark Townsend) was one of the more fun hairstyles of the night. We predicted that twists and braids would make an appearance on the red carpet, and this low [...]

Jennifer Lawrence's twisted updo (styled by Mark Townsend) was one of the more fun hairstyles of the night. We predicted that twists and braids would make an appearance on the red carpet, and this low style full of plenty of twists certainly proves it.

Hayden Panettiere is generally pretty hit or miss on the red carpet, but this was definitely a hit. Her gorgeous sleek blowout and soft green shadow made us fall in love with the starlet.

Michelle Dockery's textured faux bob was the perfect choice for her high-collared McQueen gown. The pale lip and thick black liner completed the look.

Amy Adams is generally a gorgeous actress, but her hair has been flattened to her head on one side, and we're just not sure why ... and we're a little worried about it.

Rachel Weisz chose a gorgeous sideswept wave and berry lip for the Globes. To get her lip look, use Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in #201.

Lena Dunham's hair looked a bit too bedhead-y for the all-out ballgown she had on.

Kerry Washington's sleek hair, glossy pink lip and strong smokey eye were the perfect additions to her sheer dress.

Oh, Kaley Cuoco. This deep berry lip may have worked if your hair wasn't a completely tousled updo and your eyes weren't rimmed with black liner.

Anne Hathaway's grown-out pixie cut is adorable on her and the fact that she has been wearing just a soft lip and playing up her lashes is simply working.

Amanda Seyfried played up her ethereal dress with loose, romantic curls, flawless skin and lush lashes - we loved.

Helena Bonham Carter can be counted on for her wacky outfits, but this strangely bedraggled updo is just too much.

The 70th annual Golden Globes awards aired tonight and we not only enjoyed a bevvy of gorgeous hair and makeup looks, but also the hilarious musings of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler who hosted the show. On the hair front, we had a mix of old Hollywood faux bobs, sleek locks and loose waves. For makeup, smokey eyes ruled the red carpets, with a few nude lips and a few bold hues mixed in.

We rounded up our favorite looks of the night as well as our least favorite in the slideshow above. From Hayden Panettiere’s first stunning look on the red carpet to Taylor Swift’s terrible slicked-back ‘do, there was plenty to talk about. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
