Although yes, it’s technically June and we don’t need to start thinking about wrapping up the year yet, The NPD Group, Inc. conducted a study revealing the lip color sales from the beginning half of 2011. From January to April sales in lip color jumped 11 percent (which equals an increase of $92.1 million) compared to the same period in 2010.
The same report also told the names of the top five best-selling lipsticks from that time period, determined by the amount of dollars sold. So, with no delay, the top five are:
- MAC Lipstick, $14.50
- Lancome L’Absolu Rouge, $29
- Clinique’s Long Last Soft Shine Lipstick, $14.50
- Estee Lauder Pure Color Lipstick, $24
- Chanel Rouge Coco Shine, $32
Karen Grant, vice president and senior global analyst for The NPD Group said in a release, “Coming out of the recession, it seems that the consumers thirst for color and play was reawakened. In 2010, we saw the preference for rich as well as retro colors and in 2011 we are seeing new neutrals come to the fore. As the fashion industry increasingly features bold as well as understated lip statements on the runway and in advertisements, lip color appears to be getting its groove back.”
Which of the above five do you own? Which is your fave?
