What is your advice for someone trying out a new trend for the first time?
Consult your stylist and make sure your first time is at a professional salon to help control the outcome. Begin by coloring in stages; so for example, try a dark blond shade before going to a light blonde.

What are this season’s most sought after hair trends?
Ombre, chalking and bright redheads. Anything bright and playful.

What should people know before they chalk or dye their hair?
You can pick up simple sidewalk chalk at any Target or Walgreens. In order to chalk, your hair must be damp when applying the chalk.

Are these trends something you should have done by a professional?
My personal opinion is anything color-related where you’re lifting the hair more than four shades should be done by a professional. If the change is three levels or less, feel free to experiment on your own.

Do you think it is becoming more acceptable to have colored hair and tips in the work place?
For sure! Color and highlights have been a trend forever; we're just taking it a step further with Ombre. This is nothing more than reinvented techniques that have been around for quite some time. For example, Sarah Jessica Parker and Gisele have been sporting gorgeous Ombre for quite some time.

What trends do you see sticking around until next season?
I see Ombre and Balayage being around for a long time. They are simple techniques and nothing more than a new way to do highlights.

Want to rock pink hair, but afraid of the commitment? Want the ombre look, but too timid to go near bleach? How far are you willing to go in the name of beauty?

One thing we know for sure, this season’s hottest hair trends are not for the faint of heart. It seems as if each look on the runway is more drastic than the last, and while we want desperately to replicate the looks at home … can we really pull them off?

To get an expert’s take on fall’s hottest hair we talked to Clairol Professional Celebrity Colorist Kiyah Wright. She assured us that whether you will be spending your autumn in the office or at school, you shouldn’t be afraid to try these bold styles. See how she recommends trying this season’s trends in the slideshow above.
